More press, in Challenges

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Following the article in Les Echos, Frédéric Therin wrote a longer article about Skype for the French economic journal Challenges. Extract:

Même le manque de moyens de l’Estonie est un atout. « Nous sommes habitués à travailler avec peu de ressources , expose Ott Kaukver. Nous avons donc appris à être économes et efficaces. » Le […]

Skype on the new Sony mylo

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

While I was busy changing diapers, an important announcement for Skype and especially the embedded team I’m part of was made. Sony will sell in September the mylo, a little device with wifi, a media player for music and videos, a web browser… and most importantly Skype.
I was personally involved in this project by porting […]

In the newspaper Les Echos

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

A few weeks ago I was on the radio. This time it’s the biggest daily economic newspaper in France, Les Echos, that has an article with some quotes from a long talk I had with Frédéric Therin, a French journalist who came to Tallinn for Estonia and Skype.
The article cannot be accessed for free on […]

I’m on the radio!

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

A few weeks ago a journalist from RFI came to Tallinn for a reportage about Skype. RFI (Radio France International) is the French international radio that you can listen to everywhere in the world (there is also such a TV channel, TV5).
I was a bit afraid to hear how it sounded, but it came out […]

What I’m doing at Skype

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

Happy New Year to everybody! After a very busy 2005, 2006 promises to be very exciting too.
For Skype, the CES in Las Vegas, which has just started, is an important event. There are several Skype devices that we are announcing with our partners there, some of them I’ve worked on.
This gives me the occasion to […]

How it started

Monday, November 28th, 2005

I wrote before how great the team is here at Skype. But few people actually know how everything started. I mean way before Skype and even KaZaA, before even Niklas was working with Estonia. The brains behind Skype actually started working together back in 1986:

The roots of Bluemoon go back to the year 1986 when […]

The Skype API

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

Skype is of course the little software that you install on your PC, but it’s also a network with millions of people online. And it is possible to develop all kind of applications that take advantage of this network by using the Skype API. It doesn’t even require to have Skype involved in it, just […]

Come work here…

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

To all good IT people I know,
Skype is growing fast and is fantastic company to work for. It is the best working environment I’ve seen so far, and the team here is great, a dream engineering team, probably the best technology team in Europe.
Estonia and Tallinn is also a great place to live. It’s modern, […]

On Skype security

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

A few weeks ago the French government banned Skype in French universities. They called Skype “insecure”, but the reasons are in fact all others. The origin of this ban came from the defense ministry and they have in fact good reasons for not liking Skype: It is too secure for them and contrary to email, […]

Video call from 10.000 m

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

That’s pretty cool: I’m in an plane over the Atlantic and I just add a Skype video call with Ingrid in Tallinn! Yes not only voice calls work great but video too. Quality was really nice, considering how dark it is in a plane.
