Skype is of course the little software that you install on your PC, but it’s also a network with millions of people online. And it is possible to develop all kind of applications that take advantage of this network by using the Skype API. It doesn’t even require to have Skype involved in it, just download the documentation and start coding.

I’m writing about this because this week I got both asked by an Estonian company how to get Skype to help them integrate Skype in their product, but you don’t need to wait for Skype, everything is available on our web site with the API. And I saw two very cool 3rd party applications developed with the API: Verosee, a collaborative workspace tool and Skypito, an interface to Skype made specially for kids.
