One month of Skype, Estonian, Wikis

One month now that I’m working at Skype. In this month, I had the privilege of beta-testing Skype video (indeed the quality is very good) as well as playing with the Skype wifi phone (very cool).

This is only the tip of the iceberg I can discuss about on this blog but I can tell you we have a lot of exciting things in the pipeline. And if you want to be part of it, we have a lot of job openings. I can tell you that the Insider View page isn’t bullshit. There are openings in London and in Tallinn and if you are a technical person, you should apply only for working in Tallinn, life in Estonia is nice…

Also one month of learning Estonian. Let’s be honest, my progress are slow, but this isn’t like learning Spanish for which French helped a lot. Estonian is completely different from what I know. Luckily Ingrid is helping me a lot and I must say she shows a lot of patience with the bad student…

The house project has been moving slowly lately due a lot to the job change. I’ve set up a wiki in addition to the blog. This wiki will contain the House Design Brief, which will describe as much as possible our future house, especially for the architect. Subscribe to the house blog to follow our progress.

Speaking about wiki, where is the Wordpress of wikis? There are so many wikis solutions available but there is no obvious choice. Installation in particular isn’t far from being as simple as the Wordpress one. I finally chose ErfurtWiki, which has the advantage of allowing a relatively easy integration into existing designs. I recommend to use their WebInstaller which makes installation simpler (Tip: Don’t use the all-in-one script option, you loose the flexibility of adding plugins after).
