Great phone, frustrating experience

I have this very nice phone that is the Nokia 6630. It’s a very nice phone, good looking, good keyboard, great screen, packed with features. Much better than my Siemens S65 I had before. The battery life is great (versus two days in standby for the Siemens…) and the camera makes quite nice pictures.

It also has a video player, and that’s were Nokia completely destroyed the great impression I had about it by not putting any video neither in the phone memory, nor on the CD that came with the box. How frustrating to have phone that can play videos and not be able to watch any!

But it’s getting worse. The CD actually contained 3 video files, but none on them of a format recognized by the phone, something I figured only out after downloading the files on the phone and getting a frustrating error message.

So I think fine, a bit of googling and I will find a some movie trailers in the 3GPP format, the (only?) one supported by the phone. But no, nothing, I just found a lot of converter software to convert your files to 3GPP. So after a few hours, I still haven’t seen a video on my phone.

And after the wireless industry is surprised they don’t manage to sell anything else than voice…

    Hi,

There is a 3GPP exporter in Quicktime Pro (30 euros I think for the pro license).

Happy to read from you again. It has been a long time since the last post.

A former colleague sent me following links:
    - Example of 3gp file:
    http://slist.lilotux.net/3gp/fall_on_me.3gp
    - Web page on how to create 3gp file with linux :

So I could finally try out a video. Verdict: Nice quality, and it confirms that the screen on this phone is really good.
