More change: Going to work at Skype!

About a year ago, we decided with Ingrid that the best choice we could do for the long-term was to leave the French Riviera and go to Estonia. The challenges of this move were huge. We both had to find jobs in Estonia, we had an apartment to sell and had to move our stuff all across Europe, everything without almost any savings in our pocket.

Now one year later, the Move has been completed and it is a great success. Ingrid found a job quickly, we sold the apartment with some benefit, we already bought a great land and we survived financially to the whole process. One thing was remaining, my job was in Finland, which was much closer to Tallinn than Nice, but still didn’t allow us to be together during the week.

This last thing has now been solved, since I found a new job in Tallinn. That’s already great in itself, but what makes it just fantastic is that I will be working at Skype!

I’m so excited! Being part of what Skype is making, changing the world… The people I met there are amazing and this will be an adventure you may only encounter a very few times in a lifetime. It’s difficult to express how much I’m looking forward to it. Lenn Pryor expressed very well this feeling when he announced himself his move from Microsoft to Skype:

I can’t wait to get started, you guys have something truly special and I am so grateful and excited to be a part of it. We are just beginning to change how the world communicates.

This also means I’m already leaving Elcoteq. This rapid change of job is not because I wasn’t feeling good and doing fine at Elcoteq - the perspective of working at Skype and in Tallinn was just too great. These months at Elcoteq were interesting. I met some very smart people, who really know how to develop embedded software. I learnt some important things about developing a phone, which are complementing well what I had already gained from my years at TI. It would have been nice to work with the guys here until the first phone gets into production and further, but destiny has decided otherwise.

Well, Tallinn, Skype… could it be any better? Yes, because all this removes the last obstacle for building the house and founding a family. I’m so happy!!!
