Et Cetera: Skype, phones, blogs, food…

With the big move to the north and some issues with broadband connection, I had a lot of catch-up to do in my readings, but now it’s time to do a little Et Cetera.

Robert Scoble and Shel Israel are working on a book on blogging. They posted on their blog the raw notes of their interview with Lenn Pryor. Lenn Pryor, who recently left Microsoft for Skype, has done a lot to improve Microsoft image and its interview is very interesting.

Speaking about Skype, it has been getting a lot of coverage lately, people thinking they are really on the right track (and I agree). Skype is more than just “cheap”, it provides some real new features.

With my new job I had to look at a lot of new code, and some of it was not commented as it should be… At least if they had used The Commentator I would have had a good lauch.

John Carmack (creator of Doom, Quake, etc) has been doing some cell phone game development, and his conclusions aren’t surprising:

The biggest problem is that Java is really slow.

Write-once-run-anywhere. Ha. Hahahahaha.

Some smart comments by Om Malik on why T-Mobile should offer an iTunes phone or why cell phones might become unusable:

The cellphones are getting too complicated, thanks largely due to problems of packing too many features into the phone. In the near future it is clear that the phone makers will have to work on coming up with user interfaces that pass the mom-test, yet retain street cool cred. I think this is going to be an interesting challenge for companies to tackle, as most of them have disappointed thus far.

Blog are popular in France, as shown in this Wired article.

Spurred by a culture of popular expression and debate that can be traced back to France’s 17th-century salons, the French are embracing weblogs with a greater zeal than anyone on the European continent.

If you have been to my Flickr page you know we enjoy the restaurants in Tallinn. Kristel gives her favorites places in Tallinn:

the best coffee in Tallinn - Moskva and Novell

the best cocktails - Lounge 8, Moskva and Riff

the best food - BabyBack, Moskva and Lounge 8

We haven’t tried everything yet, but we agree Moskva is great. By the way Ingrid will soon start a restaurant blog, more on that soon.

And don’t forget to check out our house blog for the latest news on our house building stories.
