The Skype API, Jyve and some new discussion solutions

Did you notice the little picture on the right bar under “Contact me”? It indicates my status in Skype, like if I’m online, offline, away, etc. If you click on it, it gives you the possibility to call me (on Skype or on my mobile phone with SkypeOut) or leave me a message.

It’s done through a Jyve Tag, a simple yet useful use of the Skype API:

A Jyve Tag is a snippet of HTML code that you can copy-paste into any web page. This snippet of code produces a live Skype Button which shows your current Skype status. This enables you to show your presence on any web page. If this button is clicked, it launches your Q-Card.

A Jyve Tag makes an interesting complement to a blog. Being one click away from talking with the person you just read the post can open some new possibilities and make for some great discussions. For example, Robert Scoble puts his phone number on his blog, and this has given him some opportunity he would have missed otherwise.

After all, blogging is all about discussions and networking and Jyve adds one more possible communication and presence mechanism to the blogging toolbox.

Like Om Malik, I’m looking forward to the other applications that can be developed with this.
