Some more Firefox love
It isn’t very original these days to write that one loves Firefox, the Mozilla web browser that reached its 1.0 milestone a few days ago. I have been using Mozilla since some time, as well as many of the Firefox precedent releases. Tabbed browsing and popup blocking changed my browsing experience, and I spend a lot of time in the browser, especially as a user of Bloglines.
Of course one cannot write about Firefox without mentioning the extensions. Here are some of the ones I use:
- SwitchProxy Tool: To quickly switch between various proxy settings, between work and home.
- Dict: Adds a link to the context menu to search the definition of a word.
- Bloglines Toolkit and Livelines: Add support for Bloglines, in particular for subscribing to a page. On a side note, to post to my link feed on Bloglines, I use a little bookmarklet I wrote (just drag the link to your bookmark tab).
- Spellbound: A spell checker, very useful for checking the spelling of a form like before posting a comment on a blog.
- BugMeNot: To bypass all these annoying compulsory registration on too many web sites.
- Gcache: Displays the Google cache of a page.
- IEView: Opens a page in Internet Explorer, less and less useful as Firefox matures.
