Podcasting, it might very well become a big deal
One of the last hot things among bloggers is podcasting. Think of it as the audio part of web feeds. The feeds you subscribe to give you audio content that is automatically downloaded and transfer to the iPod or similar devices.
It’s Do-It-Yourself radio, with a very low entry barrier, if any at all. To create a podcast, Engadget has an howto get podcasts on your iPod and how to create one on a Mac, and some info for Windows users.
There are already several podcast aggregators (or “receivers”, not sure how to call them), the one I’m currently using is iPodder. It’s not going to take long before it’s supported by all feed aggregators.
The great people at ipodder.org have also started a directory of podcasts that is growing daily. Some of the shows I have been listening to are the Adam Curry and Engadget ones.
The big missing thing for now is some standards for naming and MP3 ID tags, and metadatas. I can read tens of text webfeeds per day, but only listen to a few. And it is already not easy to write an interesting article, but doing an interesting audio show is even tougher.
But it’s definitively very exciting!
